- Filicinophyta and Pteridophyta are the same, they both refer to the phylum which is commonly known as ferns. Not sure of the origins of the term Pteridophyta but it has greek roots meaning 'winged (pteryz -πτέρυξ); and plant (phyto -φυτό) (Source: Jack R. Holt. 2012 Description of the Phylum Pteridophyta)
